Sleep where the view is best
A rooftop tent gives you the freedom to sleep where the view is best. Since 1995, Wera has manufactured rooftop tents tested in Nordic climates.
Most cars with an approved roof rack can handle a rooftop tent. The most important thing is to check the roof rack's dynamic load capacity (at least 75 kg is recommended for most models) and to ensure that the roof is long enough for the tent's base plate. Wera Regular is the widest among our models and works on most SUVs, station wagons, and many smaller family cars. Unsure about your roof rack? See our roof rack guide to find the right one.
The initial setup on the car's roof rack takes 15–20 minutes and is best done by two people. Once you arrive at the campsite, it only takes a few minutes to pitch the tent and get it ready for the night — and just as quickly to pack it away in the morning.
Hard-shell tents have a rigid outer shell that opens in under a minute, often with gas struts doing the work for you. They hold their shape well in windy and cold conditions, but are more expensive and slightly heavier. Soft-shell tents, on the other hand, have a flexible tarp — lighter, cheaper, and easier to pack flat, but take a few minutes longer to set up and require a bit more manual effort. Which one is right for you depends mostly on whether you prioritize speed or price.
Wera rooftop tents weigh between 45 and 65 kg depending on the model. Your roof rack needs to support at least 75–100 kg in dynamic load (the load while driving). The static load — that is, when the car is stationary and you are sleeping in the tent — is significantly higher, so it is the dynamic load you primarily need to check before purchasing.
Yes, absolutely — with the right preparations. Two accessories make a particularly big difference for winter camping:
- Adventure Thermoliner — an insulating inner roof that is installed in the tent and retains heat significantly better than the tent fabric does on its own.
- Diesel heater — provides active heat throughout the night, independent of the car battery, and makes cold nights completely manageable.
Feel free to combine this with a warmer sleeping bag and an insulating sleeping pad, and make sure to have good ventilation to avoid condensation.

What makes a Wera tent different?

Condensation mat
The condensation mat lies between the tent floor and the mattress, capturing the moisture that naturally forms inside the tent. The result is a dry and fresh sleeping environment – no matter how cold it is outside.
Mattress 80 mm
Upgraded comfort at 8 cm
The extra-thick mattress provides proper support all night long, so you wake up well-rested and ready for your next adventure—not stiff from a thin sleeping surface.
Tent fabric 280g Canvas + Flysheet (3000 mm water column)
Built for Swedish weather
Both the tent fabric in heavy-duty 280g canvas and the polyester flysheet are tested to a 3000 mm hydrostatic head. Together, they keep you dry through rain, wind, and Nordic nights.
Basic knowledge
What is a blackout tent?
A rooftop tent is a tent that mounts directly onto the car's roof rack instead of being pitched on the ground.

Buying Guide
Which tent is right for your car?
Most rooftop tents fit cars with an approved roof rack capable of supporting at least 75–100 kg of dynamic load.
What you need to check:
- ✓ That the car has a roof rack or cargo carrier installed
- ✓ What the roof rack's maximum load is
- ✓ That the pole length is sufficient for the tent's base plate
Comparison
Hard-shell vs. soft-shell tent
Hard-shell tents have a rigid outer shell and open faster, but are more expensive and heavier. Soft-shell tents are lighter and cheaper, but take longer to set up.
